The Fiesta Americana was constructed as part of the spectacular Plaza Agua Caliente Complex, one of the most modern hotel and retail developments in Mexico. The 24 story, five star hotel contains a three story commercial shopping center consisting of over 60 stores and restaurants. The Fiesta Americana opened in 1986 and is operated by Promotora Mexicanade Hoteles, the largest hotel chain in Mexico. TRANSTEK's participation in the Plaza Agua Caliente Complex was the fifth in a series of projects for Fiesta Americana. Others include the Fiesta Americana Guadalajara and the Fiesta Americana Cancun.

TRANSTEK was responsible for all lighting, sound, video and communication system design, supply and installation. The company's design and engineering staff collaborated with the operators and principal architects and with the interior designers, contractors and construction management in Mexico.

TRANSTEK provided complete design, equipment and installation management services for the following systems throughout the project:

  • Architectural lighting for all interior public spaces
  • Lighting control and dimming systems
  • Exterior and facade lighting
  • Theatrical and performance lighting and audio systems
  • Background music and paging systems
  • Lighting and sound systems for restaurants and meeting rooms
  • Lighting, sound and video projection systems for nightclubs
  • Lighting for commercial shopping center

TRANSTEK's U.S. design and engineering staff developed the initial project designs. TRANSTEK's local Mexico office provided installation services and coordinated TRANSTEK's international field engineering team.

TRANSTEK was awarded the prestigious International Illumination Design Award (Edwin M. Guth Memorial Award for Excellence) in 1986 for its design work at Fiesta Americana Tijuana. This was the first time that this award had been received by a project in Mexico.
